Hitting the Road: How a Phone Book Can Spark Wanderlust
When’s the last time you actually used a phone book? They kinda seem obsolete nowadays. But I recently stumbled on one at my grandparents’ place and it got me daydreaming.
Flipping through those tissue-thin pages, each name or address representing a potential destination, took me back to planning trips old-school pre-Google maps style. It reminded me of that excitement of exploring someplace new.
What I love about phone books is all the possibilities crammed within. Even if you’re just sitting on the couch, you can let your mind travel all over just from A to Z. You see each name and imagine yourself going there, wandering the neighborhoods, hanging out with locals. It allows your imagination to visit all these destinations within a single book.
While phone books may not be so useful for finding phone numbers in 2023, they still have power to spark ideas and dreams. Every page offers a glimpse of a different place. Why not close your eyes, randomly point to a spot, and let your finger choose your next adventure?
