Helena, the traveller of the 21st century {interview}

At eDreams, we love to share the experiences of travelers who book their trips around the world with us. Today we would like to introduce you to Helena , the traveler of the 21st century.

Hi, Helena. Tell us a little bit about yourself: your age, background, interests etc.
Hi! I’m Helena, I live in Barcelona and I’m 33 years of age. I work in e-commerce and I love to travel. I also like movies, TV series (I’m addicted to Game of Thrones and True Detective !!!) and I really enjoy going out with my friends.

Where do you find inspiration for your travels?

Most of the time I read travel tips from experienced travelers. I like to follow trends and listen to recommendations from my family and friends (they love to travel too!). I also read magazines like National Geographic … the photos are just amazing! And last but not least, I follow several travel bloggers and Youtubers like Johnny Ward, Adventurous Kate, The Travel Hack, Vagabrothers and Fun For Louis. If you’re looking for some inspiration, I highly recommend it!

What do you normally take with you when you travel?

I usually try to pack lightly, but I have to admit that the whole packing process always gives me a headache. Not so much because of the clothes I want to take with me, but rather because of the other travel accessories like my tablet, at least 2 cameras and the chargers! I’m a little nerdy about that. But don’t get me wrong, I also take normal items such as swimwear, sunscreen and shoes 😉

What has been your best travel experience and why?

I have fond memories of all my travels, but if I am to talk about the best experience ever, it must be my trip to Hawaii! It’s one of those places you’ve always dreamed of. I was lucky enough to find a cheap flight to Hawaii last year and booked straight away! And I’m so glad I haven’t thought about it twice because Hawaii is just so beautiful and absolutely worth the trip! Hike on the crater of a volcano, dive in the Pacific, learn to swim with manta rays and learn to surf are all experiences I will never forget. And then there is the relaxed atmosphere and the friendly people … Simply a perfect trip! If you’re planning your next vacation but don’t know where to go, I recommend Hawaii! You will not regret it!

And the worst experience you’ve had while traveling?

I am happy to say that I never really had bad experiences in my travels, but I remember an uncomfortable situation I had on my first trip to Asia. On the plane back home from Bali, I needed to sit in the center. Most people don’t like the middle seat, especially on a 12 hour flight (like in my case)! The worst part was that I was sitting next to a woman and her baby who was crying all the flight. I felt sorry for you, but it was awful …

Which travel destinations are still on your bucket list?

I have a really long list! But okay, I’ll try to narrow it down 🙂… The next place on my list is one of the Canary Islands. I would also like to travel to the Philippines, Thailand and Greece … I could go on and on for hours, but these are my top priorities right now!

How would you describe your travel style?

I am a very curious person, I love getting to know new cultures, meeting locals and trying dishes from the regional cuisine. My vacation is usually a mixture of relaxation and outdoor activities such as hiking, diving or surfing. I can do a volcano tour in the morning and relax in a spa in the afternoon.

Would you like to share a few tips with our readers? As inspiration for your next trips …
Make sure you think carefully beforehand about when you want to travel. I always try to travel in the off-season because it’s the best way to find the best prices on flights and hotels. It is important to book in advance, not last minute! To be completely forthright, I invest a ton of energy contrasting costs and offers. I can only recommend eDreams for this!
