travel north Italy Exploring the Treasures of Northern Italy

Italy is a country full of history, culture, art, food, and stunning landscapes. While most travelers focus their time in the major cities of Rome, Florence and Venice, northern Italy offers just as much beauty and charm. On my recent trip, I explored some of the top highlights of northern Italy that should not be missed.

Verona – The City of Romeo and Juliet

Verona is a delightfully romantic city, thanks in part to Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet being set here. Beyond its Juliet balcony and Casa di Giulietta, Verona also boasts impressive Roman ruins and medieval architecture. Take a stroll across the Adige river, sample some Amarone wine, and soak in the charming atmosphere.

Lake Garda – Italy’s Largest Lake

While away the days sailing, windsurfing or hiking, before indulging in the local olive oil, wine and gelato. The stunning Sirmione peninsula, with its castle ruins and thermal spas is a can’t miss.

Cinque Terre – Colorful Coastal Villages

Cinque Terre is comprised of five villages seemingly plucked from a fairytale. With its technicolor buildings perched dramatically on the cliffs overlooking the Ligurian Sea, there is no place quite like it. Hike the trails between the villages, go kayaking or relax with some of the local seafood and white wine. Don’t miss the spectacular views from the Via dell’Amore pathway.

Milan – Italy’s Fashion and Design Capital “Travel north Italy”

As Italy’s second largest city, Milan offers cosmopolitan energy alongside trendy shops, restaurants and museums. See Da Vinci’s exceptional “Last Supper” painting, glimpse the city from the rooftop Duomo and spend an afternoon getting lost in the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II shopping arcade. Catch an opera at La Scala or sit down for an Aperol spritz in the Navigli neighborhood to experience Milan’s vibrant nightlife.
